Blue Protrude
is an upcoming American superhero motion-picture show based on the DC Comics character Jaime Reyes / Blueish Beetle. Produced by DC Studios, Entertainment I, Southward&K Pictures, and the Safran Visitor, and set for distribution past Warner Bros. Pictures, information technology is intended to be the 14th film in the DC Extended Universe (DCEU). The film is directed by Angel Manuel Soto from a screenplay past Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer, and stars Xolo Maridueña as Reyes alongside Bruna Marquezine, Belissa Escobedo, George Lopez, Adriana Barraza, Elpidia Carrillo, Damián Alcázar, Raoul Trujillo, and Susan Sarandon.
Development of a moving-picture show featuring Reyes began by the end of Nov 2018 with Dunnet-Alcocer attached. Soto was hired to direct the film in February 2021 for the streaming service HBO Max. Maridueña was bandage that August, and the motion-picture show was changed to accept a theatrical release in December. Further casting took place in early 2022, before filming took place from belatedly May to mid-July in the Atlanta metropolitan surface area at Wilder Studios in Decatur, Georgia, also as in El Paso, Texas and Puerto Rico.

Evolution

Warner Bros. Pictures and DC Films were developing a film based on Jaime Reyes / Blue Beetle by the end of November 2018, with Mexican-born Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer writing the screenplay. Zev Foreman was executive producing the project for Warner Bros., which was set to be the start DC Extended Universe (DCEU) moving-picture show starring a Latino lead.[7]
Past Dec 2020, DC Films was planning to release several mid-upkeep films a year exclusively on the streaming service HBO Max, rather than in theaters, as part of new DC Films president Walter Hamada’s plan for the DCEU,[eight]

Puerto Rican Angel Manuel Soto was hired to straight the film in February 2021.[ten]

Writing

In October 2021, Soto said Dunnet-Alcocer’due south script featured “the Latino family unit at its core”,[17]
while star Xolo Maridueña said in Baronial 2022 that the family aspect of the film and character were “inherent to the comics” and felt had not been explored as much with other superhero films.[18]
Fellow star Susan Sarandon revealed the post-obit month that the film would take several scenes spoken in Spanish, with subtitles existence provided.[19]
The concluding writing credits were given to Dunnet-Alcocer, with off-screen additional literary credit given to Gary Dauberman.[xx]
Casting

Xolo Maridueña was Soto’south showtime choice to portray Reyes, with Soto explaining that he “couldn’t end seeing [Maridueña] as the character” since he was hired to straight the motion picture.[ii]
Soto and Warner Bros. offered the role to Maridueña on August 1, 2021,[21]
he was publicly revealed to be in talks for the film the next day,[i]
and his casting was officially confirmed later on that day at the premiere for the DCEU moving-picture show

When learning of the role, Maridueña was about excited that Reyes is a Latino character and he could bring Latino representation to a superhero projection.[2]
In early March, Bruna Marquezine was cast as Reyes’s love interest, Penny, with Belissa Escobedo playing Reyes’southward sister Milagros, and Harvey Guillén bandage in an undisclosed role.[iii]
After that calendar month, the balance of Reyes’s family was cast: George Lopez equally uncle Rudy, Adriana Barraza equally Nana, Elpidia Carrillo as Rocio, and Damián Alcázar as Alberto. Soto said he wanted to create an authentic Mexican family with real accents and experiences, and also wanted the elder members of the family to exist portrayed by “honey” Mexican actors from Latin American movie house who had besides crossed over to United States cinema and paved the way for members of the younger generation, such equally Maridueña and Escobedo.[iv]
By the terminate of March, Sharon Stone was in talks to play the villain Victoria Kord, an original creation for the film which was believed to be the wife of Ted Kord, the second Blue Beetle in the comics.[22]

Filming
